Paternoster

Back from a lovely 2 day stay in Paternoster:) On thursday morning we packed our bags and drove 2h30 min to the small holiday/fishing village up along the west coast. We had sunshine all trough our stay, we rented a villa close to the water, it was not directly on the water but we could see the sea, and it only took us 2 min to walk down and we could still hear the waves in the night, we stayed at a place called Strandloper Sea Villas, I can highly reommend, modern yet simple, fresh and spacious, I really liked it. I will add some pictures from our stay soon.
During our stay we just relaxed, strolled along the beach, had braais both evenings, and enjoyed the peacefulness. Nice as a contrast to the busy citylife in Cape Town.
Liina& Viivi collected shells on the beach to take home with them, to Finland:)
Today it is saturday , and we will slowly start packing for our journey up to Johannesburg. My mom & Markku are leaving on monday evening and we are planning to start driving up on tuesday or wednesday, depending on how quick we are to pack:)
I will come down here to Cape Town one more time for my last tour for this season, up north we are spending time with Nicos family.
Have a wonderful weekend !

Dancing at Boulders Beach

This is when we where at Boulders Beach enjoying the day, dancing, swimming , eating and sunbathing:)

Yesterday we went to Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, one of the great botanic gardens of the world, and enjoyed a walk between plants and trees, and in the evening Nico took my mom& Markku up to Table Mountain for the sunset, I stayed at home with the girls, as I have been there many times already and girls wanted to bath and relax at home. My mom& Markku really enjoyed the views from Table Mountain, my moms comment: `It felt like being on the moon`..hehee, not that she has every been there.

On my way to the gym now, and then we will probably go for a drive somewhere , and tonight me&Nico will go to the movies, not yet decided what movie to see, but I think it will be the movie: Tourist .

Have a wonderful day:)

Hot weather

Hello from a hot Cape Town,
It has been very hot here the last 2 days, hardly any wind, I think it has been around +35.
On sunday we spent the afternoon on the beach, having a picnic, getting some sun, jumping in the waves:) And we where quite tired in the evening, but then because it is so hot still in the evening it is difficult to fall asleep, one just keep rolling around.
Yesterday I took my mom to Century City, to the Canal Walk shopping center, just 10-15 min drive from Cape Town Center, we spent the whole day there, at least they had good aircon there:) and I think we walked into every shoeshop we saw:)
I have also been to gym every day last 3 days, and I feel very soar everywhere in my body, but it feels good:)
Today I do not know what we will do yet, maybe we will drive out to Cape Point, as we havent been there yet, and we still need to get up Table Mountain, and also drive the coast up north to Paternoster.

Have a nice day wherever you are, in snow or sunshine:)

Picture update

Here follows a few pictures from the week.
Have a wonderful weekend!

We went on a boatcruise from the V&A Waterfront

Wine tasting

The girls had their own grape juice tasting:)We even bought a bottle of sparkling juice home for them, in a fancy bottle with a mushroom cork( the same cork as on wine bottle)!
Views in Franschhoek

Winelands

Once again a beautiful day in Cape Town! Just came back from the gym, we have been good and active, visiting the gym every other day:)I can feel my muscles again!
The musical Evita was good,I think it was well done and we enjoyed it very much, a few times very touching, I just love musicals and it is a great way to get a break! While we where watching Evita, Nico had his hands full with the girls, when they had a bath, they threw buckets of water on the floor so it was like a swimming pool on the floor...once again testing their limits...
Yesterday we took my mom& Markku to the winelands, we started from Paarl by visiting KWV, doing brandy&chocolate tasting( the only way I will drink brandy) and winetasting, and a few bottles came with us too. After that we went to the Nederburg Wine Estate, all of us trying different options, so we had a tasting of 19 different wines/brandy/dessert wines. I just loved their Special Late Harvest, so I bought a bottle to take home with me...nice a sweet to enjoy with a cheese platter....cant wait:) And after that we drove over to Franschhoek and had time to visit one more estate,Haute Cabriere, as it was already close to 4pm. And what a beautiful view from the estate. After that we stopped in town and enjoyed a bit of food/coffe and milkshakes:) before our drive back to Cape Town. I think we need to do one more visit to the winelands, as we didnt have time for Stellenbosch this time. A good idea for anyone who wants to explore the wine area is to stay there a few nights, they have all kind of accommodation styles available, guest houses, wine estate accommodation, hotels...
I will update with a few pictures soon again.
Enjoy your weekend, we will probably go to the beach in the afternoon, maybe see the sunset from there:)

Home affairs SA

This week we have sorted out our Visa extensions, and luckily Im coming back to Cape Town end of February as that is when we will get the stamps in our passports, and we can only get them from here where we apply for the extension! 30days! and the lady at the counter looked like she had a lemon for breakfast! I always try to think, a smile can make you feel so much better, even at work, you give a smile and most likely you will get a smile in a return, but this lady at the counter looked like she could not care less, and also all 5 people working at the department having a coffe break at the same time when the whole room is full of people, didnt really make sence...but that is home affairs for you in SA. It was actually faster than in Johannesburg City, and that time I was pregnant and used that as an excuse:) and it worked.
We should have applied for the extensions already beginning of the month, so I should not blame the delay on the home affairs, but really....a more sufficient system is needed there.
Yesterday we went to gym again, and for a nice walk on the beach, the weather has been sunny and nice.We also went on a catamaran boatcruise from the V&A Waterfont,we got to ride on smooth waves.
Today we went to the Aquarium and on a ride up the Wheel of Excellence. Then some shopping:)
Tomorrow evening me& my mom will go to see the musical Evita, showing at the Teather on the Bay in Camps Bay, looking forward to that, will tell you more once we have been there.

Goodnight to all of you and have a wonderful new day tomorrow!

weekend and lots of penguines!

The weekend is almost over. We had a good weekend, on saturday morning we went to the gym wih Nico, after a very long break we decided it is time to start with a new commitment! And my legs felt like bursting after only 15min running...That is a sign it really is time to do something! A healty mind in a healthy body, I do believe in that! And then we went for an afternoon visit to Peter& Nicci, made homemade pizzas in their pizzaoven, great pizzas! Thanks for a lovely afternoon. On the way home we drove up Signal Hill to see the sunset, but it was so crowded there, difficult to get space for the car, we will do a new try another evening:) My mom was anyway afraid we where gonna drive off the road, as it is quite high...and I think she is a bit afraid of high places, as today when we drove Chapmans Peak she said she would never drive herself there and looked down the side with huge eyes :)
Today we had a morning picnic with the penguines at Boulders Beach, not that we made it there very early....only 10am, and it was already very crowded. We walked a bit further from the crowded beach, in between the boulders, with coolerbox and many bags, and Nico managed to slip on the rocks, with the coolerbox and bags, so our picnic was floating around in the waves, luckily he didnt hurt himself too bad, he does have an aching back and scratches here and there, but he will survive, with some painkillers:) And our picnic food got some extra flavour, sand and salt!A funny comment from a bypasser as a beer was floating around in the water: 'South Africa is a wonderful place':) when he saw a beer floating around infront of him.
Here follows a few pictures from our day with the penguines:

This is not from the beach:) It is one of the lions at Honeyguide.

One of the 2000 penguines at Boulders Beach
It was fun watching the penguines playing and swimming in the water

A mixture of children and penguines on the beach

Viivi up to something:)

Have an enjoyable and relaxed weekend.

A few pictures

Hi everyone,

Im feeling much better again, gaining energy, I think I will go to the gym tomorrow again:)

My mom &Markku came yesterday, nice to have them here:)weather has been great, windy as always in Cape Town, but sunny, yesterday we spent a few hours at V&A Waterfront, lunch there, and then in evening we took the girls to our friends house,Mareth& Anton, where a babysiter waited, as our friends also have a child,Jared, and we grownups went for dinner, a very nice place by the beach, called the Grand Beach Restaurant. It was quite a windy evening so we sat inside. We enjoyed some wine, good food and great company. And when it was time to leave, our car had got a wheel clamp, we had parked in between some other cars in a no parking zone! All cars had a wheel clamp.Luckily we got away with only paying R150:)

Today we did a drive out to Blouberg Strand, again a bit windy, but at least my mom& Markku catched some sun:)

Here follows a few pictures:

Lazy Sunday

Hi everyone,
On friday I said goodbye to my New Years group, we had a great trip, saw many animals both in Kruger and at Honeyguide, once again I think Honeyguide was the highlight of the trip. It is a good way to end a holiday in SA.
I did not join on many safari drives as I didnt feel that good, I mostly stayed in my tent reading a book, resting, but I got a good picture of a male lion, will put it in here soon. On our last night a lion was roaring next to the camp, that was quite special, I made sure the zipp was closed on my tent, just incase he decided to walk by my tent:)
On friday evening I came home again, I must say I was quite exchausted, it will take a few days to get me out of bed!:) Happy to see and be with my loved ones again!
This morning we went for a friends birthday breakfast to Camps Bay, SandyBar, and one needs to be early there as already after 9am the place starts filling up. After breakfast we walked on the beach for a while, and before noon we where back at home again, I walked over to Dale Court to meet a family of 4 that are visiting and I have planned their tour, Nico took them to Camps Bay, where they are staying next 3 nights before they fly to Jburg and from there going on a 4 day safari, They have enjoyed Cape Town very much.
The weather is a bit cloudy and rainy today, not could though, so it is a perfect day for doing nothing, maybe renting a movie and just being lazy, suits me perfectly, as I left my energy behind somewhere:)
On wednesday my mom& Markku is coming here for a 3 week visit, time to start planning what to do and where to take them, and we , of course, get to go to the movies with Nico when my mom is here...we have a babysitter,my mom:)

Enjoy your sunday and hopefully a great week is waiting ahead:)

Kruger Park

Im in Kruger Park again, tonight we are at Satara Camp. All has been going well, besides Im sick, I got a fever and coughing, tested for malaria just to make sure I dont have that, luckily negative, so now I try to keep the group on track while Im myself on a different planet. I got antibiotics, so I hope it starts kicking in soon. I have once again a wonderful group and they understand the situation. Now Im just going to sleep until the evening meal. Tiina, our guide in Kuger Park, is really helpful, she takes off a big load from me, thank you for that. And our driver Ernest is checking on me all the time so Im still alive:)
Weather has been cloudy, but that is only good, otherwise we would have temperatures close to +40 again.
Time to get some rest.I write more later again.

Hugs,

Jannika
